According to The Dictionary of Fashion History, people began using the term "fashion accessory" during the 19th century. However, humans have been decorating themselves for as long as anyone can remember using ink, shells, metal, plants, and bones (both animal and human!)
We put on bracelets, necklaces, rings, hats, and other things that add to our outfits. These accessories may mostly be for fashion but have they always been? Can an accessory be necessary, or useful?
